Oil and gas: Africa, the new El Dorado?

More than 40% of the African population lives without any connection to electricity. To remedy this, the countries of the continent are mainly relying on fossil fuels. However, the potential of renewable energies is immense. As a dozen African countries prepare to join the club of oil and gas exporters, what benefits can they expect? Will this new windfall allow the continent to develop? At a time when the International Energy Agency is calling for no more new deposits to be launched, can Africa really do without these new resources?
